Homoeopathy is
based on the principle that "like cures like", that is; a substance
that in large doses produces certain symptoms, can be given in very tiny
amounts to treat those very symptoms. Although
according to the basic tenets of Homoeopathy, a person should consult a
Homoeopath, in certain circumstances it is possible to use an "off the
shelf" product. Here at the Maple Leaf we can supply all the common
Homoeopathic preparations in many strengths.
We also have Helios Homoeopathic Kits Tablets Hard / Soft (Pills)
Tinctures
Creams and Ointments
The basis for Homoeopathy has been known since the 5th Century, but it was not
until the late 18th Century that a German Physician, Chemist and Scholar, Dr Samuel Hahnemann, developed the idea seriously.
His first experiment and a good example of homoeopathic treatment, was Cinchona bark. When Cinchona
bark is taken
internally it results in symptoms similar to that of malaria, sweating,
shivering and fever, amazingly when given to a patient to treat malaria it
relieves the symptoms.
The three basic Tenets of Homoeopathy are;
In the UK the most common potencies available are; 6c, 30c, 200c and Mother
tincture ø.
A 6c potency refers to a remedy which has been diluted 6 times by a centesimal
dilution, i.e. one drop of a substance is added to 99 drops of alcohol and
shaken vigorously, or succussed, this is the 1st centisimal potency, one drop
of this is now taken and the process repeated as before.
Other potencies are available, but we would advise for stronger potencies to
check with a Homoeopath first.
Once diluted the Homoeopathic product may be presented in a number of different
formulations. The most common are Hard Tablets, Soft Tablets (Pills), Powders,
Tinctures and Creams.
Remedies should be taken away from food, as strong flavours may interfere with
the homoeopathics action, definite things to avoid are; curry, peppermint,
coffee and tobacco, at least 10 minutes gap is advised. Touching the tablets
will also interfere with their action, so place in container lid and then
straight into the mouth from there. A range of suitable toothpastes and other
items is also available at the Maple Leaf.
