Vitamin A

Vitamin A is important for the formation of bones, skin and teeth. Vitamin A helps to maintain the mucus membranes and the outer layer of many tissues and organs, promoting growth. Vitamin A is vital for normal reproduction, growth and development. Vitamin A supports the immune system providing a plentiful supply of immune cells that line the digestive tract and form an important defence mechanism.  Research indicates that vitamin A also prevents night blindness and can alleviate “dry eye” syndrome a condition specifically associated with severe vitamin A deficiency. Vitamin A can be found in fish, egg yolks, butter and offal. Colourful fruit and vegetables contain large amounts of beta-carotene and other associated carotenoids, which the body converts to vitamin A when required.
