Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a complex of eight related chemical compounds. These are tocopherols and tocotrienols which all contain antioxidants, harnessing the free radicals which damage cells. Vitamin E improves the metabolic system by widening and preventing the clogging of blood vessels. It does this by preventing LDL “bad” cholesterol from oxidising. Another antioxidant feature is that it enhances the action of insulin and improves blood glucose metabolism by reducing oxidative stress. The effect it has on the nervous system is that it protects the myelin sheaths, which help the transmission of nerve impulses. Nuts, seeds and vegetable oils are good sources of vitamin E.
